Youth Programs
The goal of Mabuhay Health Center’s Youth Programs (YP) Committee is to address the overall health and well-being of youth and families in San Francisco’s South of Market (SoMa) district. In partnership with Galing Bata, the nation’s sole English-Tagalog bilingual after-school program, YP provides culturally-tailored and comprehensive health education through monthly health curricula and health-oriented activities at monthly carnival events.
Galing Bata Afterschool Program
Together with the Bessie Carmichael Elementary and Middle schools, YP provides a diverse array of activities and crafts for K-6 students, including health, cultural, and environmental education. Many of our students love crafts and a lot of our activities are centered around giving back to others, respecting the earth, learning about mental health, and more. We also do meditations with the 6-8 students!
Guest Lectures
YP began doing guest lectures with Sacred Heart last year to introduce public health topics to high school students. These presentations consisted of defining public health, how we recognize public health in our daily life, and the impact it has on our communities.
Career/School Fair
In collaboration with Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, the YP Committee hosted a career/school fair for high school students to help guide students through the college and job process. Several trade schools, community colleges, and universities came to table at the event!
