At MHC, we aim to provide culturally-tailored care and services to our community.

Our why

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, patients reported changes to their healthcare service needs. In recognition, MHC conducted a community needs assessment. This survey aimed to better understand MHC’s patient population and inform services, programming, and potential partnerships with other community partners.

63% of our community members make less than $25,000/year, which is below the poverty line in the United States.

Community members reported on four common themes:

  • Distrust in the healthcare system due to previous trauma and/or barriers in accessing quality care.

  • Concerns about violence and safety levels in their home neighborhoods.

  • Difficulty with accessing adequate care for mental health concerns.

  • Express interest in taking on leadership roles in community organizations but encounter some difficulty.

Our mission

While many participants believe their healthcare is culturally sensitive, deeper needs remain unmet. Many patients feel unsafe in the neighborhoods and express needing more resources, especially for mental health in the aging populations.,

For the long term, we hope to eventually accomplish the following:

  • Engage in trauma-informed and culturally sensitives approaches that enhance patient-provider relationships.

  • Advocate for infrastructure funding to improve public safety and transportation.

  • Provide more personalized and culturally relevant health resources for patients.

[There’s] not enough Filipino doctors… it’s so hard sometimes to get culturally respectful care.”
